Third Gen Zune On The Way!

Yes, you heard it right! Finally the News has been slipped around Twitter (From Brian Seitz, member of the Zune team) and although Info Is slim, there is a certain chance for a 3rd Gen Zune to be out this Summer/Fall.

Now of course there are now leaks on what this Zune will be like (IE – Firmware, Size (Physical and Hard  Drive) Touch) or anything like that, but looking at the new WinMo 7 design maybe this could be the new Zune firmware, or child of. Also, it might glimpse the idea of a touch screen Zune, but lets not dwell on that.

Start saving! More info on this when its released/leaked.

Zune 30’s Walking the Plank (Update: SOLVED!!)

Remember a good few weeks back, when Zune 3.0 and 3.1 firmware’s were released, and they were noticeably buggy, but all was fine because the devices were still entirely functional. It seems however, that the 3.1 Firmware brought with it a game crushing bug: It stops Zune 30’s from loading up.

At exactly 12am PDT, all 30GB Zune models reset themselves, and failed to restart properly, instead going to the boot-up screen with the 100% loading bar…and freezing.

Its not entirely sure as to why this is happening, but its only affecting Zune 30’s with the latest 3.1 firmware it seems. Unfortunately, if this problem doesn’t fix itself, it may be that Microsoft will not be able to fix it with a mere firmware update, afterall Zune’s only connect to the PC when they’re fully turned on.

The only known way of fixing the Zune i to remove the battery (hence resetting the date, which many believe to be the problem).

Update 31 December 2008 22:31 GMT:Thank gawd, the Zune team have singled out the issue and have posted up a solution for us

"Ok all. the issue is a bug in the driver that controls the internal clock. turns out it does not like leap years. As the date flips to 09 the device should be back to normal. let the battery die the plug in and restart once we flip the date"

All is fine then it seems. Still, quite a scare a few people had there!

Zune 3.1 Firmware Released, New Games Ensue

Zune Games

Cesaz Mendez from Zune Insider has posted about a surprise new Zune 3.1 update heading out to your Zune’s, bringing with it 3 new full featured games for your Zune, as well as general stability fixes (Unfortunately however it still leaves most of the bugs we’ve previously reported on free to roam).

“The team has been doing a little extra work heading into the holiday season; in fact this week is a busy one. You are going to see some pretty cool things coming for Zune that we thinks you’ll enjoy…

Starting today, Zune gets a little update which will bring a handful of free games, a refresh to Zune Social and incremental improvements to the software.

On the games front, we are giving away three new additions, Checkers, Sudoku and Space Battle, plus a new multiplayer mode and single player difficulty levels for Texas Hold’em.

On the more techie side we focused on improving overall stability and performance in the Zune PC software and device firmware, such as improved play count reporting and content synchronization between the Zune software and the Zune device.

To get the new update, use the PC software, just click settings: check for updates.

    Zune 3.0 Firmware Bug Squashing

Since the release of the new Zune 3.0 firmware, many people have been feeling ecstatic about the new features now at our fingertips, like games and access to the wireless marketplace from our devices. But it has come to my attention that not everyone has been lucky enough to find the new firmware’s experience as enticing as the majority of us, unfortunately.

After talking to many other Zune owners, I’ve found that they have encountered many small issues with the new firmware. Although I haven’t personally come across any such problems, I decided to take a closer look at them anyway. Here are just small sample of the problems brought forward:
"Why haven’t I got any games on my Zune!?"
"My song timer stays at 0:00 when I play a song!"
"My Zune keeps freezing after a song!"
