Zune HD: A hands on look

So, Zune HD just got official yesterday, and today we’re already starting to see some hands-on, real life shots of the device, courtesy of Engadget. First, they got a live demo of the device from none other than Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s current head honcho, complete with badly taken, blurry pictures, and now they’ve been given the chance to go hands on with it themselves, with some decidedly better photography to boot.
According to Engadget, the new interface is just like a pimped up extension of the current interface, with more emphasis on non-essential visual flourishes to make the interface seem more appealing, like lots of flipping images and smooth scaling fonts zooming in and out. Unfortunately their hands on look doesn’t really get past the home menu, though you can check out the device in all its’ slim, sleek glory over at their photo gallery.

Zune, Microsoft Corp.’s end-to-end music and entertainment service, today added 46 new designs from leading artists to its customization Web site, http://www.ZuneOriginals.net , for the holiday season. For those looking to customize a Zune player for themselves or as a personalized gift this holiday season, the new Zune Originals designs include a Zodiac Series featuring exclusive artwork of Eastern and Western astrology from Catalina Estrada and Iosefatu Sua. An expanded line of regular Zune players, popular Zune accessories and Zune Marketplace gift cards are also available for purchase through http://www.Zune.net just in time for the holidays.
“Zune Originals infuses pop culture, style and art into digital entertainment to help consumers turn their Zune into a personal statement,” said Chris Stephenson, general manager of Global Marketing for Zune at Microsoft. “We’re excited to add beautiful new designs from these incredible artists and to introduce them to a broader audience.”
In the Zune Originals online design studio, consumers can customize a Zune by choosing artwork and adding personal text that is laser-etched on the Zune player they choose. Zune is refreshing its Zune Originals Artist Series, adding 12 new eye-catching designs from artists such as these:

 And for the second of today’s two photo gallery updates, we have the Zune 3.0 Firmware Press Images, which is the complete gallery of all the press shots issued by Microsoft to advertise then Zune, showing off all all the news features.

Photo Gallery: Zune 3.0 Firmware Photo’s

 For the first of today’s two photo galleries, we have the Zune 3.0 Firmware photo’s, (shot by me) taking a quick tour first hand through the new features on my Zune 80GB device, including quite a few shots of the wireless Marketplace along with games and the new Zune menu.
